Review: MadBull Noveske NSR & Crusader Barrel

I’ve recently had the opportunity to run a very nice setup on my WE Katana AEG: the Madbull Noveske NSR handguard and Crusader outer barrel. Together they work in a way that the guns gains balance, ergonomics and looks:

MadBull Airsoft have simply the best and most realistic accessories for Airsoft guns in the market nowadays. The fact that they have several major real steel brands licensing airsoft versions of their products is an obvious sign that they’re doing what it takes not only to provide realistic Airsoft replicas as well as superbly manufactured products.

The Noveske NSR Handguard and Crusader barrel are no exceptions to the rule, as I’ve had the opportunity to assess during the past few months that I’ve been running these on my badass WE Katana AEG which after a while of being stopped, is working again!

This is a new platform on the sub machine gun category chambered at 9mm but can also be adapted to use  .40S&W / .357SIG.

The MPX’s main selling points are the fact that its the only SMG that can change calibre, barrel length and stock in just a few seconds, enabling the operator to adjust the gun to several scenarios providing great flexibility.

There are 4 stock models: the SIG MPX-K the compact variant with a short barrel and collapsable stock, the SI MPX-P their pistol type version, the MPX-SD suppressed version, and finnally the MPX-PSB with a support brace on a folding stock.

Ever dreamt of Infra-red imagery in Airsoft?

Well now its possible, thanks to FLIR, your iPhone and Intelliscope:

SANDPOINT, Idaho, September 17, 2014 – Inteliscope LLC today announced it has become an authorized reseller for the FLIR ONE thermal imaging camera for iPhone with a specific emphasis in the shooting sports. FLIR ONE is available for immediate purchase on Inteliscopes.com and at Inteliscope Authorized Retailers later in fall 2014.

The award-winning FLIR ONE is a lightweight accessory that transforms an iPhone 5 or 5s into a powerful thermal imager. When paired with its iPhone app, FLIR ONE displays live infrared imagery that allows the user to see the world from a thermal perspective.

Using the InteliscopePRO mounting system, the FLIR ONE and iPhone can be mounted onto a firearm to detect hotspots in complete darkness, providing users with a sixth sense. “Based on technology that was formerly reserved for the military, FLIR ONE is the first in a new generation of affordable thermal imaging devices designed to inspire imaginative and innovative uses by consumers. This represents a revolutionary step forward for both FLIR Systems and thermal imaging,” said Andy Teich, President and CEO of FLIR Systems.

Review: WE TT-33 Tokarev GBB Pistol

Here is a review I really enjoyed doing since its a great looking gun with a very nice recoil:

One of the less discussed Airsoft event segment is the re-enactment game, where a group of players who share the interest of a particular war period get together and shoot each other with guns and gear used for that war period. This is probably a simplistic way to put it, and perhaps is not fair to the growing popularity of these events where experienced regular Airsofters or simply war history enthusiasts get together to remember how war was waged say during Vietnam, World War 2 or even World War I.

The gun that CWI Airsoft sent me to review this time has a lot of history behind it (well, not the actual replica, but the real steel version it represents), and goes back to the 1930s when it was originally conceived by Fedor Tokarev as a service pistol for the Soviet Army.

The gun design was ultimately copied and produced by other countries such as Yugoslavia and China adopted in several other countries.

Mouth guards in Airsoft

So are mouth guards any good for Airsoft??

I have been thinking about putting this to test as I wanted a type of protection that would make feel protected from ever breaking a tooth, but at the same time I didn’t want to use a half face mask of any sort as from my experience they either fog up your protection eye-wear or if you go with the mesh masks, it becomes less comfortable and easy to aim down your sights and rest your cheek on the stock. Which also makes you have to train differently and position/adjust your sights with a different setup since your eyes wont be at the same level and angle when you’re using the mask.

So I did a bit of research and found some Doctor Shock mouth guards from Sport Direct, I was looking for the double mouth guard version but since it was Friday and I had an Airsoft game next Saturday I had to go to the Shock Doctor Gel Max Mouth Guard, which only provide protection to the upper teeth.

After getting home and checking the instructions I realized I had to boil the thing for 90 secs  in order to make it adjust to the shape of my teeth.

After boiling I had to run it by cold water and then bite hard on it so it would take up the needed shape and get the best fit possible. I had to do this procedure three times as only at the third time it would have a comfortable fit that wont fall from your teeth after it cools down.

Ready for my first Airsoft day with my new mouth guard I was still a bit sceptical and afraid of not having my bottom teeth protected, but I decided to go through with this.

When I first worn them I noticed that its kinda hard to talk while wearing them and your speech starts sounding like gibberish to other players! But heck I did my best to speak and make myself understood as you can also communicate by hand signals…

After a whole day of sounding funny I noticed that wearing the mouth guard boosted my confidence and didn’t have any interference on the way I use my gun and play. Only the way I speak. I also learned that I could take it out during short moments to communicate with team-mates as long as we weren’t under fire. I even took a shot to the upper lip and although it wasn’t a very strong impact I felt that had it been stronger the mouth guard would have avoided any of my teeth from breaking. So there’s the actual physical protection plus the psychological effect that having this extra layer of protection that boosts your confidence and takes your mind away from the dreadful thoughts of cracking a tooth.

Overall I really enjoyed wearing the mouth guard and will continue to do so. Only thing I will do is I’ll probably give the double mouth guard a shot, but I foresee that I probably wont be able to speak at all using it :)
